3 Minute Wonder Proposal

The general concept for my documentary would be based around the idea of living in a large family, as I myself am the oldest of 7, with a large amount of pets (45). It would focus on how a family with a large amount of children differs from those with smaller amounts.

It would be shown in the style of an observational documentary, with the main focus being on the actual subjects without a narrator or judgement.

The primary target audience would be parents, as it gives them an idea of what having a certain type of family is like. Demographically, they would likely be in their 20's-30's and probably female, as they are, stereotypically, more familial. Psychographically, they would be interested in looking after children and going on outings, probably reformers.   A secondary audience would be older males and teenagers, either with large families who can relate to it or with small families who aren't used to it.

The aim of the documentary would be to display a different lifestyle, and inform people on how it differs from perceptions.

A majority would be filmed in my own home, and if I was to film outside of their I would need the people appearing in it (family members) to be there as well, some of which can drive. So transport is easily sorted.

People featuring in my documentary would be my family, and possibly people that they know, so I would need to get releases for them to be in the documentary. I would be filming in my own house and in public areas so recces wouldn't be too much of a problem to sort out, if there was an issue however I would be able to find out the location's information and send a message to them. I wouldn't  need anyone as part of the crew but if there are parts I need to be in then I can get someone from my family to help film.

Possible interview Questions:

Adults:

Why did you decide to have such a large family? (Parents)
What do you like about having many children?
How would you say it differs from 'normal' sized households?
How do you afford to look after such a large family?

Children:

Do you like having lots of siblings?
What's the best thing about it?
What's the worst thing about it?

As well as questions about themselves, such as their hobbies or favourite things. Having children talk about things unrelated to the main documentary's ideas make it more relatable and, in some cases, it will end up with cute or funny answers.

There isn't much of a budget needed, but I'll need to think about cost of petrol for travelling.
